Hi guys.
When deciding what I would right about for the next year of my course there were a few options that I could write about, but I have gone with my heart and my heart is always with my football team, Aberdeen.
Back in the 1980s Aberdeen were the most dominant force in Scottish football. They won 13 trophies in 10 years, including that famous night in Gothenburg where the dons beat the mighty Real Madrid.
Move the clock 30 years on and you will find a much different scene. The 1990s and early 2000s saw decline of Scottish football due to the financial power that English football has obtained through TV money and high profile players. Scottish football is at its lowest and that has had a damaging effect on its clubs like Aberdeen.
Last season (12/13) was a torrent one for the dons. Failed cup runs and an 8th place position prompted the board to look beyond veteran manager Craig Brown, and young Derek Mcinnes was hired to finish the disappointing campaign.
When the players arrive back for pre season in July there is always a renewed sense of optimism around the club. Mcinnes's first task was to tell the players who was and who wasnt in his plans. 12 players left the club in the Summer and 6 were brought in. Top scorer Niall Mcginn signed a new deal and experienced campaigner Barry Robson joined the ranks of his boyhood team.
Results in pre season suggested that Aberdeen were more than capable of challenging for the 2nd place. I say 2nd place because Celtic have had significantly more fire power than the rest of the league since Rangers went bankrupt.
The dons side has youth and experience in its ranks to challenge the rest of the league and with a more attacking look about the team, hopefully we see success on the horizon.
Cheers for Now
